Frequently asked questions -
Q: "Why do we need to do an interview?"
A: We have had time to learn this breeds personality - and by meeting with you and discussing your personality, home, family environment, etc. - we can get an idea whether this is indeed the right dog for you. Some puppies may have difficulty in a busy family setting, while others may be too active for an elderly family. We try to place the right dog with the right owner.
Q: "Why do I have to fill out an application and contract? Can't I just pick the puppy I want and take him/her home?"
A: We make a commitment to all our puppies to place them in a safe and loving environment. The application and contract is our agreement with them, and you - that you will provide such an environment for them.
Q: "If this doesn't work out - what can I do?"
A: Owning a Doberman is a big responsibility. This is why we interview prospective owners beforehand. It's also why you must sign a contract with us. We make a commitment to all of our puppies - the contract states that when circumstances make it impossible for a pet to remain with your family, it is required that we be notified and allowed to find a new home for him/her.
Q: "Do you perform health testing?"
A: Yes, I perform the required OFA health testing for my Dobermans. Some of the health testing is only required one time and the other testing is performed annually or semi-annually.
Q: " How long do you keep your females in your breeding program?"
A: We strongly believe in pulling active females, out of our breeding program before they turn 4 years old.
Yes, even if they are still producing great puppies!
We do this for 2 reasons;
1. Breeding/whelping/nursing really takes a toll on them.
2. We want our Dobermans to enjoy the rest of their lives, just being dogs.
FYI:
When searching for a puppy, please ask the breeder;
How old is their female?
When was the first time she was bred?
How many litters has their female had?
How often do you breed that female?
Remember, just because they can, doesn't mean they should!
